In 1999, Judge Smith served as counsel for the Davidson County Juvenile Court Oversight Commission. In 1998, he served on the Davidson County Juvenile Court Evaluation Committee which was charged with evaluation of candidates for positions as Juvenile Court Referees. 1988-1990, Judge Smith served as Assistant District Attorney for the Office of the District Attorney General for Davidson County, Tennessee.
