Across Pennsylvania, Brian Vertz is viewed as an authority on financial issues in divorce. Now he is the co-author of a best-selling legal treatise on tax issues, Frumkes & Vertz on Divorce Taxation. For over twenty years, he has represented clients in complex support cases, high net worth divorces, difficult custody matters, and appeals. With his MBA background and financial training, he develops effective strategies for family law cases involving business valuation, executive compensation, double dipping, prenuptial agreements, business succession planning, and other advanced issues.

Brian is a partner of Pollock Begg Komar Glasser & Vertz LLC, a Pittsburgh law firm dedicated to family law. Using a team approach to meet the needs of clients from all walks of life, Pollock Begg resolves the financial and personal aspects of divorce, property division, alimony, child support, spousal support, settlement, prenuptial agreements and appeals.

Brian is deeply committed to improving family law practice through his affiliation with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. At the national level, he is co-Chair of the Technology/E-Discovery/Law Office Management Committee and the Amicus Committee. He is a planner and speaker for the AAML/AICPA National Conference on Divorce 2016. He is also an officer of the Pennsylvania state chapter.

Brian has received the recognition of his peers for professional achievement. Since 2005, Brian has been listed as a Super Lawyer. He is rated AV-Preeminent by Martindale Hubbell. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America for family law in every edition since 2010.

Brian is active in the legal and professional communities. He has served on boards and committees for the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Allegheny County Bar Association. He is the founder of Legally Speaking Toastmasters, a Pittsburgh chapter. He was an officer and trustee of the Crafton Public Library. He is active in pro bono and charitable causes through the Allegheny Bar Foundation, AAML Foundation, and Pittsburgh Pro Bono Partnership.

Brian is a prolific writer and speaker. Since 2006, he has presented Family Law Update, one of the most-watched family law programs of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute (PBI). Brian is also an author of Slicing Up the Pie: Equitable Distribution in Pennsylvania; Business Valuation and Divorce; Tax Consequences and Estate Issues in Divorce and Drafting Marital Settlement Agreements, as well as Fundamentals of Family Law (since 1994). He has lectured twice before the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges.

Brian Vertz publishes FamilyLawTaxAlert.com, exploring tax strategies for family law; and his divorce blog containing updates on new and important Pennsylvania family law cases.

Brian earned his degrees from the University of Michigan (B.A. English 1988), the University of Pittsburgh School of Law (J.D. 1992), and the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business (MBA 1991).
