The 2016 Institute

The 2016 Institute was held at The Renaissance in Chicago from Thursday, June 23, 2016 to Sunday, June 26, 2016.  Co-chairs, Tom Ries and Richard Jacobs, report that it was a huge success.  Both Introductory and Advanced Programs were presented.  Although registration was “targeted” for 30 students for Introductory and 20 students for Advanced, the 2016 Institute had 32 students from 17 states in the Introductory Program and 31 students from 18 states in the Advanced Program.

- What single project or task would you consider your most significant accomplishment to date?

Electronically stored information (“ESI”) is information that is stored in technology having electrical, digital, magnetic, wireless, optical, electromagnetic or similar capabilities.  Electronic Discovery, or e-discovery, is the use of legal means to obtain ESI in the course of litigation for evidentiary purposes.  Together, they constitute interesting and important considerations and challenges that overlay family law as well as traditional civil litigation.

Supporting the Foundation through planned giving may be easier than you think.  When you include the Foundation in your will, or make the Foundation a beneficiary, you can make a gift that will take effect after your other obligations are fulfilled - you can care for those who are important to you now and later.

It has been a busy and exciting few months since our mid-year meeting in the Bahamas.

The Missouri Chapter of the AAML was pleased to host AAML President Joslin Davis and her husband, Fred Harwell, at their Chapter meeting at the Intercontinental Kansas City at the Plaza in April 2016.   Joslin gave us an update of AAML action on the national level and we discussed recent developments in Missouri case law and legislation.  We will be sponsoring the AAML Foundation luncheon in Chicago this year to honor Missouri fellow and new Foundation president, Anita Rodarte.  The Chapter added three new members this year.  We are planning our biennial Family Law
