AAML Certified Arbitrator
Profile
As a partner at Pittsburgh-based Pollock Begg, Brian C. Vertz delivers strategic, results-driven counsel in high-stakes divorce, complex child support disputes, and high-conflict custody and parental abduction cases. A trusted problem solver, Brian draws on decades of litigation experience to craft effective strategies in complex financial divorces, negotiated settlements, prenuptial agreements, and family law appeals. As a prominent member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) and the International Academy of Family Lawyers (IAFL), Brian brings the benefit of national and global resources to his practice.
With an MBA and business valuation credentials, Brian is uniquely equipped to handle cases involving business valuation, executive compensation, asset tracing, and family trusts. As the author of Divorce Taxation, a leading legal reference, he is recognized in both legal and accounting communities as an authority on divorce finance and taxation. Tenacious in the courtroom and at the bargaining table, Brian also represents parents in interstate and international custody disputes and is a skilled teammate in collaborative divorce and mediation.
Beyond the courtroom, Brian is a leader in organizations dedicated to improving the practice of family law. Since 2003, he has led AAML committees on Chapter Leaders, Amicus, Law Practice Management, and Technology. He received the AAML’s 2023 Public Service Award and its 2024 Professionalism Award. As President of the AAML Foundation, he oversees a multimillion-dollar grant-making organization that supports children and families underserved by the family law system. Brian is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity degree part-time and volunteers with public service organizations supporting unsheltered and food-insecure communities. He leads one of the largest family law teams in Pennsylvania with a deep bench and stellar reputation for strength and integrity.
