Steven Mindel

With over 30 years of experience in family law, Steve Mindel is a Certified Family Law Specialist and the Managing and Founding Partner of Feinberg Mindel Brandt & Klein, LLP (FMBK). Since its founding in 1990 as a small Los Angeles-based family law firm, Steve has grown FMBK into one of the largest and most respected family law firms in Southern California. Today, FMBK boasts a team of over 20 attorneys with offices in West Los Angeles, Pasadena, and Calabasas.

Steve’s practice centers on consensual dispute resolution, including mediation, contractual family law, and the negotiation of complex premarital and postmarital agreements, cohabitation agreements, and domestic partnership agreements. Known for his personalized, “hand-in-glove” approach, Steve guides clients through sensitive family law matters with the goal of achieving optimal and lasting outcomes.

He has been recognized as a Top 10 Southern California Super Lawyer by Los Angeles Magazine for five consecutive years (2020–2025), a Top 100 Super Lawyer for twelve consecutive year (2007-2025), and has been named a Super Lawyer every year since 2004. In 2009, he was featured on the cover of Super Lawyers Magazine.

Steve currently serves as the 2025–2026 President of the Southern California Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML). His leadership roles within the AAML include serving as Dean of the SoCal Trial Advocacy Institute, Chair of the National 21st Century Committee, and a member of both the Board of Examiners and Website Committee. He is also a former Chair of the Family Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Steve earned his B.A. from UCLA, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1981, and received his J.D. from the USC Gould School of Law in 1985.

Outside the courtroom, Steve wears many hats. He’s a hobby chef who has published two cookbooks, a black belt in Tae Kwon Do who teaches kickboxing classes, and a devoted NASCAR fan, especially loyal to Team Hendrick.
