Our Own Little Embryos Become the New AAMC
Since the newsletter this month is focused on embryos, eggs and custody, it is time to shine a light on the return of the AAMC. What is the AAMC you ask? Well, it is the American Academy of Matrimonial Children. At the Mid-Year Meeting in beautiful Costa Rica, a mixer was held for all the children of academy Fellows on Tuesday, March 11 just ahead of the welcome dinner.
Children of all different ages from different states got together for an outside meet and greet with non-alcoholic libations of lemonade and apple juice were served. President Laura Belleau, several members of the executive committee and parents of the AAMC were in attendance. Many members of the new AAMC set up a group chat on their phones and iPads to stay connected and spend time away from their parents roaming the resort.
Of course, it does seem like this group was a bit tamer than the founding members of the original AAMC. Founding members, Natalie Webb, Francesca O’Cathain and Amy Dowlye (daughter of Ken Altshuler) (pictured on the right from left to right) told stories of bar fights and foam parties. However, this new AAMC could take some lessons from the “OGs” of the AAMC, because it turns out that the original AAMC members were selling “sponsorships” to Fellows back in the day so that they could have excursions paid for by adult fellows. Obviously, these were some smart lawyers in the making!
