When Love Dies But AI Lives On: One Divorce Lawyer Dips Her Toe Into the World of NetDocs AI

By Julia Leveridge

In a twist as predictable as my IT professional ex-husband forgetting to fix the printer, this divorce lawyer of 25 years (50, linear-thinker and somewhat allergic to technological change) has officially completed her first AI training on NetDocs, a cloud-based document management system. NetDocs provides a secure and centralized platform for storing, managing, collaborating on, and accessing documents from anywhere. NetDocuments is known for its security features, workflow automation, and integrations with other legal tools, now including AI. This was scary for a lawyer like me who only recently stopped printing her emails.

I had the training where I only half-listened, because I had about a million other things to do and 140 emails to respond to as well.  After remarking, “What the heck did I just watch?”, I was told to “play with the AI” and for it to “get to know me and my writing style”.   Play with AI? I questioned whether AI could really know this snarky, emotionally unavailable Gen-Xer.  However, I did keep trying, because, well, my partners and I had paid for this, and I was going to make sure I used it!

To fully utilize the capabilities of NetDocs AI, comprehensive training is required to familiarize users with the AI functionalities, allowing them to optimize their workflow effectively. Through systematic training, lawyers and paralegals can become proficient in using AI tools that enhance accuracy and productivity in their tasks. Understanding the nuances of AI operations is vital, as it equips users with the skills to navigate legal documents.

NetDocs AI document management by offers features that streamline the legal process. Its auto-summarization capability enables quick extraction of key information from lengthy documents, saving valuable time. Moreover, users can utilize AI to generate insightful questions from transcripts, facilitating more pointed and efficient legal queries. Additionally, NetDocs AI enhances communication by aiding in drafting and editing emails, ensuring that legal professionals maintain clarity and precision in their correspondence with clients and other lawyers.

As divorce lawyers, we are often bogged down by repetitive tasks that consume significant time. NetDocs AI addresses this time-suck. The AI’s ability to format documents automatically and suggest edits enhances the speed and quality of document preparation. By reducing manual interventions, NetDocs AI not only saves time but also minimizes errors in legal documentation. This streamlining of tasks allows lawyers and paralegals to focus on more strategic aspects of their practice, thereby enhancing overall productivity.

AI is increasingly becoming integral to client interactions. An interesting observation is the rise of ‘dad’ clients who leverage AI tools to refine their communication. I had to ask a couple of my “dad” clients why their Our Family Wizard messages were so well-written, they admitted to using AI.  The future may be co-parenting bots . . . AI facilitates improves the articulation and organization of ideas. By integrating AI into client communications, lawyers can provide more responsive and personalized services, meeting the evolving expectations of tech-savvy clients.

Alas, I hope that AI is going to prove to be a more functional union that I have with some of my clients.  After using NetDocs AI integration, I have attempted to auto-summarize deposition transcripts, write deposition summary questions and write less passive-aggressive emails.  While I am not completely sold yet, I have to admit that when used correctly, AI may make my job more efficient.  The truth is that the future of family law is now and AI is here to stay.

AI can suggest edits, summarize and even format.  Let’s face it, AI is not replacing lawyers.  It is replacing tedious, boring, time-sucking and sometime soul-sucking parts of legal work.

Now, I will admit that I attempted to use AI to write this article.  However, I learned that AI could not replace me entirely as I believe that I am far funnier.
