Leadership and Governance

How does AAML navigate rapid change and provide exceptional information, learning and experiences for Academy Fellows and other Family Lawyers? With outstanding leadership and the best in-class governance practices.

AAML consists of Fellow groups and staff working together to achieve the Academy’s objectives. Committees help present the interests, needs and attitudes of the membership, and assist the Academy in maintaining high standards of professional practice; promoting the interest of Family Lawyers serving as a spokesperson for the profession; and providing appropriate services to all Fellows of AAML.

AAML is governed by Fellows who serve as the Board of Governors, 19 of which serve as Executive Committee members.

The Nominating Committee is appointed each year by the First Vice President and presented at the Annual Meeting. In accordance with the Bylaws, the Nominating Committee, no later than June 1st of each year, makes its report to nominate one Fellow for each elected position.

Kenneth Altshuler, Past President, Maine
